You are invited to take part in a
Taekwondo Grading Examination in Scoil Eoin (Innishannon Primary School)
A Grading Examination is the method used by our club to determine when members are ready to progress to their next grade (belt). Attendance is only necessary if you wish to advance to the next grade.
If you wish to take part in this upcoming exam, you will need to complete and return the exam form, with the €25 examination fee at your next class (on or before Friday, May 2nd).
No late registrations will be accepted.
You can download and print the exam form (PDF format) here:
On the day of your exam, your examiners will be ask you (in a small group) to perform some of the things you have been learning in class including:
The examiners will take notes on how you perform each part of the exam. Once the exam is over, the examiners will give their notes to your instructor, and in your next class, your instructor will share the examiner’s advice with you. The examiner’s notes will explain to you any parts of the exam that you need to fix. You will take those notes home, and should practice any corrections that you have been given.
Every week when you come to class, you will be given a chance to show that you have made the corrections suggested by the examiners. Once your instructor sees that you have made all of the corrections, you will be presented with your new belt.
If you are a beginner or a White Stripe, you don’t need to bring anything with you. If you are a White Belt or any belt higher than that, you need to wear your Warrior Martial Arts uniform for the exam. If you are Green Stripe or higher, you also need to bring your sparring equipment (boots, gloves, gumshield, etc.). If you are missing any of the required equipment, you may purchase it from your instructor, but you must notify them immediately to allow time for delivery. Equipment cannot be provided at short notice.
The length of an exam is not set in advance, as it depends on how many people register to take part, and how much time each person needs to perform to the best of their ability – the examiners don’t like to rush anyone doing their exam. Before the exam starts, the examiners will give you a small opportunity to practice. After practice, Beginners are usually the first group(s) on the floor, and each Beginner group takes about 25 minutes to complete their test. On the day, parents will be given a time to return to collect children from the exam. Adult exam candidates are free to leave once they have completed their exam.
Beginners can bring family members to watch their first exam, but spectators must be silent throughout the test. With this in mind, babies and younger children should not be brought to the exam, as there can be no distraction of exam candidates. No other spectators are permitted.
