T.K.D.I Blackrock championships
Following on from their recent sucess in England, members of the Warrior Team were in action again at the the Blackrock open championships. The team consisted entirely of black belts, with Aishling O Driscoll, Sean and Aoife Ó Broin in the junior sections and Dwayne Crowley and Eugene Birlea in the Senior Sections.
Sean Ó Broin got the Warriors off to winning start by dominating the junior heavyweight division to win a well deserved gold in sparring and also a gold in the patterns section. Again his younger sister Aoife was not to be out done and also dominated her division’s with a gold medal in both patterns and sparring.
Aishling O Driscoll secured a well earned silver medal in the junior black belt patterns section and another silver in the junior black belt sparring section, Aishling gave away a big height advantage in all of her fights but it didn’t faze her as she fought with great heart, especially in the final where she fought another very talented young black belt in what was a very close fight.
Eugene Birlea made his senior debut in the patterns section drawn against team mate Dwayne Crowley in the first round and again in the play offs. Eugene performed in a patterns section dominated by top class Tae Kwon Do exponents and was awarded a well earned bronze medal after performing his pattern three times. Dwayne Crowley also performed his pattern three times and earned silver in the same division. Both are still very young in the senior division and improve every time so this is a sign that the best is yet to come.
Dwayne Crowley took to the mat to compete in the heavyweight black belt division and took bronze in a very tough division.
Overall the level of competition was very high and every medal was well earned. We would like to thank Mr. James Dwyer and Mr. Paul Manning for the invitation and for a fair and well run competition.
