NITA Open Tae Kwon Do Championships March 2010 Photos

The Kinsale Open took place this year on Sunday February 21st in Riverstick Community Centre.

Well done to all of the Warrior Tae Kwon Do students who took part on the day.

On the evening of Saturday February 27th a group of over 40 Warrior Tae Kwon Do students, travelling from clubs as far afield as Bishopstown and Skibbereen, met at Innishannon Tae Kwon Do club for a night of tough training with the National Squad.

The class, which was open to all ages and grades, gave students the chance to not only train alongside members of the current squad, but also to demonstrate their own ability in front of the coaches, with the hope of themselves being called up for future events. For the duration of the class, Dan and Barry O’Mahony led the students through a series of sparring drills and bouts of free sparring during which the students were afforded the opportunity to put these techniques into practice. The class was an intense, non-stop affair and it certainly tested the fitness levels of all taking part.

As well as being an important training session for the squad members, the event also served as a very successful fundraising event, with over 200 euro being raised from class fees – all of which has been donated to the squad fund, which provides sponsorship to squad members when representing our clubs at major events. This includes 9 of our squad members who will be travelling to England for the NITA Midlands Championships on March 7th. As a gesture of thanks to all who attended, the squad members (who were already very tired) each performed 50 push-ups in front of the class.

Thanks to all who attended, especially to the beginner and white belt students and those who travelled long distances to support the squad.

Congratulations to all who competed at this year’s event.

The competition, now in its second year, attracted a massive turnout once again and, this year for the first time, included a senior section.

Thanks to everyone who supported the event as the money raised on the day has been put to good use by our national competition squad, members of which will be competing in both England and Portugal in the month of March.

A presentation evening was held on Sunday February 7th in the Clonakilty Hotel, for all students receiving their Black Belt certificates from the November 2009 examinations.

Following an introductory speech by Warrior Tae Kwon Do President Mr Dan O’Mahony, each of the 2009 Black Belts were presented with their certificates to warm rounds of applause from the 80+ people in attendance.

Official presentations were then also made to all students who passed the 2007 and 2008 examinations held by GST/TAGB International (prior to the formation of Warrior Tae Kwon Do), as their certficates were only delivered last year and some had to be re-printed due to misprints.

With the individual and group photos taken, the students, instructors, friends and family members attending were free to relax and chat, while enjoying the excellent selection of food and refreshments provided by the hotel.

Thanks to the management and staff at the hotel for all of their help and to all of the friends and family members of those receiving their certificates for making it a memorable and very enjoyable evening.
